It’s been a long time since I did write for my blog. I have been so busy getting bigger and looking out the front gate when I’m allowed to play on the side of my house where the street is. I have still been going to my park like I told you before and when I go there, I go with my Dad because I can’t drive. My Dad drives us there.
This is me getting ready to drive us to my Emmarentia.
I also haven’t added to my blog for you because when I get bigger I don’t like homework because it is writing and I also don’t like girls or kissing them. I play with my best friend Matthew because we are boys and we can get wet when we go to my Emmarentia. When girls go there they wear white clothes and scream when they think I’m gonna make their clothes wet and brown.
I like it when they think that and scream.
It’s fun for me.
Look at me here. I am very wet.
Then I had to be a big boy because I had to go to Summer Camp. My Dad did say he had booked for me because all cocky spaniels like me have to go to summer camp. Then he said that because I was going there and he didn’t need to feed me, he would go to his cousin’s party in Cape Town.
What they have at summer camp for cocky spaniels:
- They have children to play with (my Matthew!!!!!!!)
- They have girls – yuk! (It’s Matthew’s big sister Hannah and she actually wasn’t so yuk because we played together even)
- They have my cousin Milly there (she actually lives there even!)
- They have running in the park with my aunty Niki (she lives there with Milly even!)
- They have ladies in the park that I can shout at
- They have my harness and my leash
- They have no queen beds
- They have no inside beds because cocky spaniels aren’t allowed inside at the Summer Camp for cocky spaniels
- They have my bowls even
- They have fancy food
- They have more kitties than at my house where I have only one kitty only
- They have a lot of rain there at summer camp for cocky spaniels
You see they have a lot of different things even.
When I came home I was upset but I don’t know why because I was also happy. My Daddy and my Gogo and my Granddad said I must have been tired from too much fun. They always say this and then they say I am a cocky spaniel but I know I am a cocky spaniel always so.
My arm was sore because I can’t remember why even. And then my Daddy did put on a bandage with creams and then I took it off because I didn’t like it on me.
Here’s me when I took it off.
I will try to write again when I feel like it.
My name is Finn. Summer Camp Finn.
They said that I wasn’t supposed to take things without asking. But where I come from my nose tells me what I must take. That nose of mine is very clever because it’s almost always right and the things that it tells me to take are super yummy.
But still, there have been times where my nose told me what to do and then I heard the shouting and they were all so cross with me. I had always counted on my nose with trust and most of all reliability. I was even gonna ask my Dad for a bangle with the letters WWND on it: What Would Nose Do?
I have been thinking lately because things haven’t always gone so well. When I do this thinking is when I have been locked out and have to sit in my outside bed and look in through the windows with my sad eyes and think about what I’ve done.
They said that I have Felon-Finn-tendencies and that if I don’t try to stop my stealing ways, I will have to go to the puppy detention place called SPCA.
These are the things they say I have Felon’d:
- A bottle of Gingko Biloba tablets
- A bottle of Milk Thistle tablets
- A can of shaving foam
- A brick of cheddar cheese
- My Grandad’s belt
- My Grandad’s slip-slops
- My Gogo’s sandals
- My Dad’s socks
- My Gogo’s socks
- My Gogo’s panties
- My Grandad’s nuts-and-bolts set
- The Kitty’s milk
- Coffee (that I knocked over so I could drink it up)
- Tea (that I knocked over so I could drink it up)
- Hot Chocolate (that I knocked over so I could drink it up)
- Beer (that I knocked over so I could drink it up)
I really don’t want to go to puppy detention place so every night I snuggle with my Dad and sleep on my back and snore. I think he loves it when I do that.
If I get a WWND bangle I am going to give it to the Kitty.
My name is Finn. Finn the Felon.

I have big ears. Some of the humans say that they are like Dumbo’s ears. Dumbo was an elephant. He had big ears too and his could make him fly. I use mine for listening. Did you know that dogs can remember up to 250 words? Yup. I don’t know that many but I know quite a few.
The word they have all been talking about lately is FOMO. My humans say that I have a bad case of FOMO because I need to be everywhere and see what’s going on. FOMO is a short word for a four other words. It means Fear Of Missing Out.
When my Dad feeds the kitty, I am there to check that he does it properly. FOMO. When anyone goes to into the bathroom, I go with in case they need my protection. FOMO. When my Gogo sorts out the washing, I’m there to help by taking the socks outside. FOMO. When the phone rings, I have to bark and run to get there first and sit and wait while my humans answer it. FOMO. When one of my humans picks up their keys, I bark and spin around and run to the door and then around to the side gate to watch and see that they got into their car okay. FOMO. When we go to the park and my Dad puts me on my leash, I have to run ahead and pull him to show him where we must go because of where all the other puppies are. FOMO. When one of my humans comes home from the shops, I run to the front door to see if they bought a new squeaky toy for me or more Beeno’s or something for the kitty that they want me to taste first. FOMO.
And when me and my Dad go to sleep at night, I put my head on the pillow just like my Dad does. If that makes him have nice dreams, then I want to have the same too. FOMO.
I don’t mind having FOMO. Because when it comes down to it, YOLO.
My name is Finn. FOMO Finn.
There are five days in a week that my Dad goes away during the day and two where we have the whole day together. On the five days that my dad goes to his work, he sits me down before he leaves by saying “Sit!” and then he says he has something to tell me. Then he holds my face and kisses my cheeks and says: ‘You is kind. You is smart. You is important.’ Every single day he says this to me so I know it must be true. When I think about it, it makes me feel important like this.
I heard that my Daddy learned this from a movie. He learns things from all different places. On Saturday, the third day of November, he had to tell me something else he learned. It had been a very busy day. These happen a lot which I like because I like to be busy. This day was busy because we went to my Emmarentia park again and it was more special even because he let me off my leash as soon as we got into my park.
I ran and ran and ran and ran some more. To the left side of my dad and then the right side. And then far out to the front and then back to him faster and faster. We met a few other puppies that were also in my Emmarentia park with me and my Dad. We then met these two beautiful ladies that were there with their puppies. There were three of the puppies and two of the ladies. It was nicer in the beginning because the puppies came to say hello to me, but then the big boy one didn’t like me and started to fight with me. I cried. I cried a lot and very loudly like the day when I touched the electric fence. It wasn’t fun anymore. He was on top of me and biting into my neck and it seemed like no one could hear my screams. Soon the pretty lady got him off and my Daddy came to help me calm down on the grass in my Emmarentia park.
My Daddy checked my body and said I was just covered in dog spit and that there were no holes in my skin. Then we went on our way and when we got around the corner my Dad asked me to sit by saying “Sit!” and said he had to tell me something else that he learned once. It was a story he had to study that wasn’t amazing he said but had its place or something like that. He said he thought of it now because of what just happened. He said it was called A Tale of Two Cities, and the opening said:
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”
I looked at him. He looked at me. I think he was waiting for me to bark. But I just looked at him. My Daddy then explained that sometimes the good and the bad go together and that I just have to learn to pick up my body with no holes in my skin and carry on wagging my tail. Then he kissed me on my cheeks and said: “Don’t ever forget that you is kind. You is smart. You is important.”
Then I ran to the lake and jumped in. I like water a lot.
Because of the things that my Daddy has learned and taught to me, I know that it is important to have fun doing the things that make you happy.
My name is Finn. I is kind. I is smart. I is important.
This is something I have been thinking about for a long time. I have grown up a lot and so I didn’t want to say this too soon because I wanted to use my big brain to give it a lot of my thought. But I am still confused. You see, since I came to my new house to live with my family, I have known the kitty. My people loved me on the first day but the kitty did not. When I bounce to them and bark at them and kiss them with my tongue, my people love me. When I do the same to the kitty, she does not.
This is the kitty.I think that the kitty may be sad because I have more brown fur than she does. But she shouldn’t worry because I don’t judge kitties on how much brown fur they have. In fact, her brown is more ginger. But she shouldn’t be upset because when I listened to BBC Knowledge, they said that gingers are a dare breed. I think she is very daring. I once saw her have a staring contest with a bird. She sat inside the house and the bird ate its crumbs on my grass. The bird must have been scared because as soon as it finished my crumbs, he flapped his wings and flew up to sit on the wall. I must also be a dare breed because I am also very daring.
Look at me.
I think the kitty may also be sad because I can run around my house all over my floor and she has to jump up and sit on shelves and watch me running on my floor. But she shouldn’t be upset. I would let her run on my floor with me because I am not a spiteful.
I think the kitty may also be sad because she has to sleep in Gogo’s room. My people have put a latch on the Gogo’s door which only leaves it a bit open. I can’t get in to tell her she can come out but if I could, then I think she would understand that I would let her run on my floor with me. She has to stay in there all day sleeping on Gogo’s bed in the sun. That can’t be fun for her. When the sun is up, we must run all over my house and wag our tails. I think she wants to run all around and wag her tail too but she can’t get out because of the latch. I would help her because I am good at showing all animals how to wag their tails.
This is me sitting on my grass.
Today was a very important day. My Dad bought me a brand new collar and a new harness from my animal’s shop. This is very important because I use it to lead my Dad when we go to my park so that he knows where we must walk and where I must make my wee’s. But I think the kitty may also be sad because she didn’t get a harness. And when we go to my park she can’t come because she doesn’t have a harness. If she got a harness she would never need a brand new one from my animal’s shop because she is the same size. I think she should eat more so that she can get bigger like me. When she doesn’t eat, I show her where her food is by eating it because I thought maybe she forgot on that day. I think she needs a harness.
The truth about cats and me is that I am still not sure. But I will keep trying because I really really love that kitty.
My name is Finn. I love the kitty.
My Dad says I have come a long way because I am getting bigger all the time but he doesn’t have to tell me because I know because I stopped making wee’s inside. And because everyday I am taller. And because I can sleep through the whole night without needing a wee. This is me sleeping through the night, look.
But the best thing is that yesterday I went to my park and my Dad let me off my leash so I could walk all by myself! I was very good and never ran away even. Look at me walking without being on the leash. That’s me.
And here’s me playing in the water without being on the leash. See?
I have this harness that my Dad connects my leash to. The proof that I have grown is in these photos. These are my photos of me at the park in my harness. Look at the difference. This is little me when I was little. This picture shows when my harness was too big even on it’s smallest setting.
And see this one of me now? That’s me yesterday and my harness is smaller even, on the biggest setting it can go.
I need a new harness.
My name is Finn. And I am bigger now.
Before I knew why, I was running and crying. Something awfully terrible had happened and I was looking for my dad. I was dizzy and sore and my face was pounding. When my dad came to see what all my noise was about, he picked me up and made me feel better. I heard Granddad explain to him that I touched my electric fence with my nose. Then he said I went flying backwards and then started crying.
I always go and play on my rock that leads up to my little wall that is protected by my electric fence. That is a fence that has electricity in it so that mean, bad people can’t come in and take our things without asking or saying please. I can’t really remember what happened but it was not good and I hope it doesn’t happen again.
Once everything had calmed down, I sat and looked at the scene. It makes me sadder because I don’t want to stop playing in those flowers. I must be careful.
That was on Saturday. There was a very big storm later that night and my Gogo and my Granddad needed me to curl up with them and keep them warm. On Sunday there was a lot of chilling. That is when they take it easy. I didn’t want chilling so I kept myself busy and my Dad gave me a bone. My first bone. Then he said he had another first for me – a bath.
This is when you go in the warm water and get all your fur cleaned with shampoo. He then made me dry with a two very big towels and a wind blowing thing and I was so happy after that because I was shiny and new.
My name is Finn. Good and clean and electric fresh.
This was a very full weekend. I did lots. I went to the doctor and she put an injection in me to make me strong against diseases so I can go to the park and still be fine. Because sometimes the other dogs can make a little guy like me sick, but not now. I have been booked for another meeting with the doctor in December, but no one will tell me what that is about so I guess it is supposed to be a surprise.
When my dad was paying for my injections, he said I could choose a harness and a leash. I chose the blue ones and when we got home, we walked down to the end of the road and back.
This is me walking down to the end of the road and back.
On Sunday, my dad’s friend Christiaan organised a puppy play date. We went to their house which is close to ours which was good because I don’t like the car. It makes me sleepy. When we got there I saw my friend Harley who I have met twice before.
This is me and Harley. That’s me on the right.
A little while later, another two more dogs came! Olive and Troy. We all played and had fun for the whole day. I think they all loved me a lot because they said that they loved me a lot. Our dads are going to organise more dates like that and I will be happy and they will love me a lot.
When I got tired I went to sleep on my dad’s lap. Then he took me home.
This weekend was fuller!
My name is Finn. I love the weekend.
There comes a time in every puppy’s life when he shows he grew up and made good decisions. Today was not one of those days.
When my Gogo gets home from the Buddha job, she lets me free in my house to run and catch things and play and jump and bark. She also sits and works a bit on her little screen and then I watch her and play and watch her and play. In between that I think about changing the world.
Today I found braiding behind her couch. This was something I knew I could change. This braiding was very tightly stuck to the couch – but not too tight for me. I knew I could get it loose and after using my sharpest teeth I did. Then I heard it. The noise. It went like ‘mwraaaahhh warhhaaaamm…’. You know… that big noise that my Gogo can make?! She came toward me and I had a funny feeling she wasn’t as impressed with my unpicking as I was.
I got a hiding.
It was sore.
But before I could explain myself she put me outside and closed the door. I remember her saying she wanted to recover that big chair and I thought I was helping my Gogo by starting to help.

It was a fresh Saturday morning. I had finished munching on my morning food that my Dad gave me and then it was time to jump around and bark at the wind. It wasn’t long before I found myself in my corner patch. This is where my humans throw organic stuff that they are not going to eat. They say it goes back into the ground and makes the sand yummy for my plants and my trees (which I eat when they are not looking).
Anyway… this is where I found a yellow half ball of sour. It was an alien in my patch and it was my very important job to make sure no harm came to my humans because of it. I pounced and bit and pawed until I was sure it was lifeless.
But you never know.
My name is Finn. Defender of my humans.
When my Dad and my Gogo brought me to my house, I got to see how they had chosen all these different rooms to do different things in. In my kitchen, they make food for them and for me. In my dining room they eat their food (or sometimes on the couches if they want to watch the picture machine). I have my own set of bowls and sit before I eat. I think they like that because then they speak in nice sounds and stroke me on my back.
In my house, there are three other rooms with big soft boxes. I used to sleep with my Dad on his box but then this one time (or maybe three) I needed to wee so bad but was barking and bouncing and biting, so I just made a wee where I was standing. Wow my Dad got cross! So I have decided to sleep on my floor bed.
My name is Finn. Peacekeeper of my home.
I was born on the 25th June, 2012. I had to stay in the nursery with my host Mom and Dad for six weeks until my real Dad came to fetch me. I have one brother and three sisters but they had to stay when I left so I think they lost contact with me.
I settled into my new home very quickly. My humans made everything nice for me and my Dad bought me lots of presents.
For five days in my week I watch our house for five hours all by myself. I’m not scared because I have my teddy-puppy and am learning to bark pretty loud. If a bad human heard me they would run away.
My name is Finn. Guardian of my home.
